CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Youth Congress leaders on Monday lashed out at Karti P Chidambaram, son of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, accusing him of making repeated attempts to create a rift within the Youth Congress and needlessly interfering in its affairs. At a press conference in Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the TNCC headquarters, state Youth Congress president M Yuvaraj said Karti was acting against the spirit behind the ideas of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who introduced a new electoral system to strengthen the functioning of the Congress’ youth wing.Yuvaraj alleged that Karti was using the Youth Congress as a platform for his personal growth and claimed that as many as 28 parliamentary constituency leaders have complained that he interfered in their work, claiming to be acting on a mandate from Gandhi.Yuvaraj said he has appealed to All India Youth Congress general secretary Kiran Kumar Reddy, in charge of Tamil Nadu YC, to take action against Karti, with a copy to Gandhi, and that Reddy has promised appropriate action against Karti and has sent showcause notices to Prabhu, the parliamentary constituency president of Nagapattinam district, and Varadarajan, vice president of the state YC, for inviting Karti Chidambaram to participate in the YC membership card distribution function held recently in Nagapattinam, ignoring a party directive not to. He said Rahul has not authorised Karti to talk about seat-sharing with the DMK.
