Ban on plastic materials during poll campaign

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Election Commission has shown a red signal to the use of plastic and polythene during the election campaign in the upcoming local body elections.

The Commission made a plea to the political parties to abstain from using  campaign materials that are not eco-friendly.

The District Collectors have been entrusted with the task of implementing the directive of the Commission.

The Commission has directed the local bodies, where the final electoral rolls have been published, to circulate it to the national and state political parties, free of cost.

The selection of reservation wards in Kozhikode Corporation will be held on August 30 while those in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation will be picked on August 31.

The draw of the wards will be done at Kozhikode Town hall and Panchayat Association hall respectively in Kozhikode and Thiruvanan

thapuram.

The selection of reservation wards in Karunagapally and Kottayam municipalities will be held at Kollam T M Varghese Memorial town hall.

The process for Thripunithura, Thrikkakara, Eloor, Maradu, Guruvayur, Irinjalakuda and Kodungalloor municipalities will be held at Kochi EMS Memorial Town Hall and those of Kottakal, Nilambur and Neeleswaram municipalities will be held at Kozhikode Urban Affairs Joint Directorate office on August 31.
