HYDERABAD: Driving tests at Regional Transport Authority (RTA) centre in Nagole will soon be judged by a computer-based Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. The new system is being implemented two years after it was proposed.RTA officials said the RFID technology will be introduced in the beginning at the four-wheeler test track. The sensors have already been placed underneath the tracks. “The four-wheeler track will be made into an RFID-enabled test track. Later, the facility will be extended to remaining tracks for testing two-wheelers and heavy vehicles,’’ deputy transport commissioner C Ramesh said.Officials explained that when a person drives on the track, deviations would be reflected on the computer screen to be monitored by a motor vehicle inspector. “With the new system, human error will be negated. On some occasions, drivers had alleged before the MVI had deliberately failed him despite driving the vehicle perfectly. But now the RFID system will judge the test and the concerned official just have to process the application. As number of candidates applying for driving licenses is increasing by the day, RTA officials are finding it difficult to accommodate all due to limited testing tracks. A person has to wait for one and a half month on average to give his test. To reduce the waiting list, officials have added new testing tracks at Nagole, Kondapur, Uppal and Medchal.According to officials, each extra track can accommodate 56 applicants every day. RTA is also planning to re-open the RTA centre at Secunderabad to make it convenient for applicants residing close to the area.expresshyd@expressbuzz.com
