Standard format for hospitals mooted

CHENNAI: A panel of experts from the healthcare and health insurance industry on Sunday proposed to form a team to help standardisation of documents in claiming insurance by hospitals. The proposal was made at a workshop, ‘health insurance and claims management’, organised by Sankara Nethralaya Academy.

The panel that included Vasanth Lesliee, general manager, BD, Global Hospitals, Dr Ramesh Karmegam, Medi Assist India, and Dr Prakash, Star Health Insurance, said the team will come up with a standardised format for hospitals in claiming insurance. It will then be sent to the state government for approval.

The workshop aimed at giving a comprehensive overview on the health insurance system saw representatives from over 40 hospitals in TN, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Puduchery and third party agencies taking part.

Many topics including technical advancements in insurance, claims management, standardisation of documentation in claims management and innovations in insurance were presented.

Rammohan P, chief executive officer, Health Sprint Networks, who spoke about technical advancements in insurance said that unlike banking sector where the RBI directs banks to adopt technology, it is not done in the insurance industry.
