Governor, leaders extend Teachers’ Day greetings

CHENNAI: Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa greeted teachers on the eve of Teachers’ Day.

“The principles and ideals of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan stand relevant to the teachers and to the youth even today. Teachers should emulate Dr Radhakrishnan, a doyen of this field,” said the Governor, while extending his greetings to teachers.

The Governor also called on all citizens of the country to show their gratitude to their gurus.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also conveyed his greetings to the teachers of the State and recalled measures taken by the DMK governments over the years to ensure the welfare for teachers in the State.

Opposition leader J Jayalalithaa conveyed her wishes to teachers and  asked them to do their best to make good citizens out of their students.

The birthday of second President of the country Dr Radhakrishnan,  which falls on September 5, is celebrated as Teachers’ Day.
