Bright monochromes and elegant French manicures have become a mundane affair. This monsoon give a glamorous twist to your fingers with nail art.Nail art is a fun way to accessorise a special occasion outfit and can add a unique flair to your appearance.“I love to try different designs on my nails because it gives a funky and trendy look to my outfit,” says Manisha Goswami, a law student. The funky trend seems to be catching up with Bangaloreans.Nail art professional Savita, from the Bodycraft Nail Bar, says, “Besides the basic French manicure styling, people nowadays also prefer different types of art designs in their nails.” Nail arts like acrylic nails, floral and geometric patterns, 3D and embellished nails are very popular among the youngsters.“You can have different designs depending on the mood of the occasion, such as bridal, fantasy, cartoons, sports, holiday, animals, and many more,” says beautician, Nandita, of Nandita Beauty Zone.“Glittered and embossed nails are ‘in’ this season, she adds.Nail extension and stamping are other options to spruce up the nails. Nail extension is done by applying chemical products like gel and acrylic paints. It is a little complex and time consuming process. For each nail to be done, it takes about 10-15 minutes. These extensions require a filling generally after four weeks. People, who have weak nails and do not have long nails, can go for nail extension, say the experts.Stamping is another process in which after applying bright nail paints on the nail, various designs like flower, butterflies, pearls and stars are stamped on it.Try at homeWhile the detailed nail art can be best done by professionals, you can also try your own creative versions at home. You will need bright nail polishes, glossy top coat, toothpicks, jewels or stars, and cotton wool. First of all, make sure your nails are clean, even and well shaped. Then, apply the desired colour by proper brush and follow that with the design you want to work upon. A toothpick will help you to apply jewels, dots and swirl the colours with precision. After that, don’t forget to cover the nails with clear glossy top coat.
